Technical Lead

PHP, Agile, Scrum Experience - Remote

£50,000 - £60,000 per annum

About the role;

Our client is looking for a Technical Lead who has background experience in this role. This is a hands-on and technical leadership role to ensure service delivery of bespoke applications, website, data integrations, data reporting solutions. The successful candidate will report directly into the Global Head of Applications and will work closely with regional and local IT and Business teams.

Responsibilities;

• Adhere to the “Mobile First” approach and thoroughly test all code on different browsers and devices using Browser Stack or similar tools

• Optimise and Tune Databases (MySQL, SQL Server) for best performance by cleaning temporary transients

• Configure and manage application, website and database backups, software repositories and application disaster recovery

• Vendors and 3rd Party Service provider management

• Create and manage bespoke website integrations with external systems using oAuth, SSO and REST API’s to manage

• Brainstorming & problem-solving with product, content and marketing teams

• Write, organise & update technical documentation & processes

• Working on multiple projects over the same time period.

• Stay plugged into emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities.

• Maintains strong & effective working relationships with internal teams and external teams

• Offers assistance & support to both internal & external teams where needed

• Clear written & verbal communication to all stakeholders (incl. queries, clarifications etc.)

• Clear & detailed documentation / document creation

• High standard of detail in data / information capturing on customer / stakeholder calls

• High level of availability to customer / stakeholders when required & timely issue resolution

• Quick & appropriate escalation of issues to internal & external stakeholders

• Keep internal teams & external partners motivated and ensures they are striving to reach their goals & fulfil potential

• Ensuring service delivery within target OLAs, KPIs and SLAs.

• Contributes to defining the reporting & team structure

• Analysis of project / engagement requirements considering needs of all stakeholders

• Organisation & facilitation of infrastructure needs (e.g. hardware, software, licences, systems access etc.)

• Establishes project management tools & access (e.g. Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence etc.)

• Creates ‘definition of done’ & setting the internal standards of outputs

• Timeline development for key customer milestones (e.g. implementation phasing, critical business deadlines etc.)

• Essential experience;

• Experience with WordPress and WordPress Multisite

• Experience of creating WordPress themes and plugins from scratch

• Excellent understanding of PHP 7.x.x, MySQL, MariaDB, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS3 and Bootstrap Framework

• Full understanding of MySQL Replication and Optimisation to improve queries and database load

• Experience of caching technologies such as Varnish, MemCacheD and Redis

• Proven ability of working with SOAP and oAuth2 API’s

• Knowledge of code versioning tools including Git and SVN

• Strong knowledge of Linux, including web servers such as NGINX, Apache and configuring for optimal performance

• Strong experience with best security practices

• A willingness to work flexibly as the needs of the role dictate (including weekends and evenings on occasion)

• 7+ years experience with WordPress and WordPress Multisite, WordPress custom theme and plugin creation

• Experience developing AMP-friendly and mobile optimised landing pages.

• Experience scaling high-traffic websites

Desirable;

• Able to take designs from Sketch/Photoshop to Web sites, Mailers or HTML5 Banners

• Can think ahead and balance technical debt and impact.

• Understand the statutory requirements of legislation concerning Safeguarding, including Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and inclusion

• Ability to monitor, measure and optimise site performance using tools such as GTmetrix, PageSpeed Insight/Lighthouse and react to changes with the Google algorithm
