Salary: £30k – £32k plus Benefits


Job Summary


The IT Officer’s role is to provide customer-focused, front line IT support to our client. This will include working both under the direction of the IT Manager and independently in day-to-day activities by reacting quickly and effectively to IT problems. The main duties include solving users’ problems, providing advice and guidance installing and configuring PCs and application software and carrying out office administration. Additional duties include monitoring and maintaining Linux and Windows servers and developing scripts for automating routine administrative tasks.


Key Responsibilities


Primary


IT Support

  • To assist the IT Manager in the day-to-day activities of the IT department, and react quickly and efficiently to IT issues as they arise

  • Installation and configuration of PCs

  • To purchase, install and support computers and software provided by the College to administrative and staff

  • Providing support to users including computer maintenance, training and advice, in particular drop-in support for students during term time and support for conferences during vacations

  • To keep the student computer room systems up-to-date and working including enforcement of the computer room rules

  • To maintain virus-checking software on College owned equipment and assist students with installation and updates

  • To deal with malware and clean up suspected virus infections and account compromises in a safe manner

  • Assisting the IT Manager with other tasks such as network management, software deployment as required

  • To maintain a database of IT fixed assets owned by our client.

  • To keep track and organise replacement of stocks of consumables including toner and ink cartridges

  • To maintain information on the access control systems

  • To analyse and project IT use/need and help IT Manager to develop strategy for meeting this

  • Creation and updating of IT documentation within the client.

  • Involvement in projects as required both in conjunction with the IT Manager and independently

  • Identify equipment needs and select suitable products under the IT Manager’s authorisation


Problem Solving

  • To provide first-line problem-solving support for users via telephone, email and in personTo provide assistance for students with technical problems concerning their own computers


Education

  • To assist staff with computer usage and basic troubleshooting

  • To inform students about facilities available, College regulations and best practices


Conference

  • To work with the AV Technician to set up and support computers, printers and audio visual equipment for conference use during student vacations

Secondary


  • To assist the IT Manager with the maintenance of general College systems Office administration/reorganisation

  • To work with the IT Manager on developing scripts for automating routine tasks such as installation and configuration of software or proactive monitoring for problems
