£80,000 - £100,000

About the role;


Our client is a credit management professional delivering world class accounts receivable solutions which help credit management teams. They are looking for a Head of Development to join their team and join them on their journey as the next few years will be an exciting time for the company as growth explodes. Your responsibility will fall into two categories – supporting and coaching engineers and being responsible for the delivery of the product and technical roadmaps.


Responsibilities;

  • Taking the product and technical roadmap and making sure that requirements are all properly defined for the engineers

  • Working with the relevant engineers to define high level estimates that they will be aiming to deliver against

  • Overseeing the day-to-day work of your team to make sure they are hitting their KPIs in terms of delivery and quality of code

  • Contribute to product strategy, set project goals and continue to support and mentor your team

  • Drive team goals forward by organizing the team’s work and setting appropriate milestones

  • Understand how teams are performing and where improvements can be made

  • Communicating the challenges and complexities of new features to other, less technical, stakeholders

  • Helping to ensure our teams are making good decisions about where to spend their time and effort

  • Writing and commenting on technical proposals and participating in design sessions

  • Managing incidents

  • Conducting regular 1:1s with every person you manage to give and receive feedback

  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing high performing engineers

  • Helping individuals determine the best way to reach their professional goals

  • Managing performance and providing useful, timely feedback

  • Guiding engineers to the right training courses, conferences, and potential stretch projects

  • Helping with productivity or communication issues

  • Interviewing and supporting hiring new engineers

  • Contributing to management best practices: helping us become an exceptional place to work for the ambitious, highly motivated people that we hire

  • Creating a strong team spirit and bring everyone together regardless of their location


Essential experience;

  • Managing multiple teams of engineers – currently you will be responsible for at least 9 developers potentially split into two teams

  • You have experience of managing teams across both onshore and offshore locations as well as supporting hybrid working practices

  • You have been a software engineer building user-focused products at pace

  • Proven ability to deliver Enterprise products to budget and time

  • You have technical & architectural expertise, and have evolved a growing code base, technology stack and architecture over many years

  • Have delivered Enterprise distributed cloud applications

  • Understand the value of high-quality code and can effectively manage technical debt

  • Ideally you would have experience in SaaS solutions and Financial Services

  • Proven stakeholder management

  • Proven ability to wear many hats, technical, operational, strategic, customer/client facing

  • Proven experience mentoring and growing technology and development teams to your style is collaborative, to encourage your team to improve their code

  • You're a natural recruiter, passionate about building your team
